For completists there is another great (hard to find) italian version that deserves a mention: a young Daniele Gatti conducting the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. CD Conifer out to print.
RCA has reissued it a few times. In my own personal rating system which I use before I publish, 5/5 stars are recommended, and 4/5 stars are honorably mentioned. I’ve owned the Gatti since it was first released on Conifer. This last time through I gave it 3/5 stars. The sound isn’t the best, and for me Gatti is a bit slow in some key places in Catacombs and Appian Way. But that was just my perspective.
