Thanks for this. One of my favourites and I’m keen to check out your recommendations. I’d like also to dive into some other orchestrations. I’ll always come back to the Emerson Lake and Palmer version which pairs perfectly with a Friday night and a scotch.

Thanks so much for your message. I didn’t realize the popularity of the ELP version but it certainly has some great reviews, including yours, so I will definitely check it out.

The Pogorelich is really fun, he is a genius albeit not quite appreciated enough. I found the Svetlanov and will have a listen. In general I like his recordings for the passion, another underappreciated conductor in my view. Thank you!

Also, any recommendations for non-Ravel orchestrations, such as the Stokowski one?

Let me do a bit of research on that. I know of the Stokowski recording but haven't listened to it in quite a while. There is also Knussen and Serebrier. I will look into it.

Thank you for your excursion in the best interpretations of one of my all time favorite. This was (with Dvorak “New World”) my introduction to the Classical Music. Two piano version I like alongside the others are by Michail Rudy on Calliope label (hard to find) and expecially by Pogorelich: an idiosincratici one, but a great one IMO. Between the orchestral version a mention for Svetlanov in a live recording by BBC label .
