Update on Building a Classical Music Collection
June 10, 2026
Dear subscribers,
I recently fell ill with some sort of gastrointestinal bug, most likely due to traveling again as I always do this time of year. The pace of my posting has slowed, but that will change significantly over the next few weeks as I will have more time to write.
For paid subscribers, I’m working on my profile of American conductor James Levine, as well as the best new classical releases of the year. For all subscribers, in the Building a Collection series I will be posting about Rossini’s William Tell Overture.
As always, thank you for your readership and support. It means more than I can express. I hope the summer of 2026 is off to a great start for you.
John

Wishing you a fast recovery. I love James Levine. I think he was a genius of all times. I think someone like him shouldn’t have been dismissed, even after the scandal. As Domingo (?) said, that’s how it worked, we all know that. But this doesn’t dismiss the genius he was.
