Dear Subscribers and Readers,
If you are following along our journey covering the top 250 classical works of all-time, you know we are going up the list (we started at #1 and will eventually finish at #250). The next post will be #81, Respighi’s Roman Trilogy of evocative orchestral works focusing on the city of Rome. But the Roman Trilogy is really three distinct works: The Fountains of Rome, The Pines of Rome, and Roman Festivals. I have decided to cover the trilogy in three separate posts in order to give each work its own due. Thus, when they are posted they will be published in the following order:
#81A: The Fountains of Rome (1916)
#81B: The Pines of Rome (1924)
#81C: Roman Festivals (1928)
It makes more sense to do it this way, since some conductors have only recorded one or two parts of the trilogy. The three works were not necessarily imagined as a complete work presented in the same performance or recording, even though the vast majority of recordings do present all three together.
The first post on the trilogy, The Fountains of Rome, will be coming to you soon.
Thank you for your understanding, and as always, happy listening!
Perfecto! Quedamos a la espera de estas fascinantes obras. Un saludo desde Valencia, España.
