Dear Building a Collection Readers and Subscribers,
I have made one further edit to my recent post on Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, this time I want to thank Igor, one of my readers, for pointing out an omission I made. The splendid 1996 recording by Pekka Kuusisto and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under Leif Segerstam on the Ondine label was actually in my notes as a recommended recording, but I missed it somehow in the editing process, and left it off the list. I have now updated the post to include the recording, certainly one of the most insightful and lovely versions of this great concerto. Thanks again to Igor for bringing it to my attention.
Just today I discovered that Leif Segerstam, the conductor on this album and a very prolific composer himself, passed away just yesterday at the age of 80. So I want to offer my wishes of peace and blessings for Segerstam, and say I am grateful for his contributions to the musical world.
Have a great day!
