The Top 75 Conductors Series

#4: Ernest Ansermet

________________

Welcome to #4 on our list of the Top 75 Conductors, and following in alphabetical order we arrive at Swiss conductor Ernest Ansermet. Ansermet’s first career as a mathematician was soon eclipsed by his development as a gifted musician and conductor. Thanks largely to his long tenure at the helm of his own orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Geneva) and their exclusive recording contract with Decca, his recorded legacy is substantial and he has gained almost a cult-like following among record collectors.

Ernest Ansermet (1883 - 1969)
