Having two such extraordinary recordings of Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto released in 2024 is an embarrassment of riches. Both Baiba Skride and Isabelle Faust have been on the music scene for quite a while now, and while I have previously admired both of them at various times for some outstanding performances, I don’t think I’ve been as awe struck by their virtuosity before as I am with their new respective recordings of Britten’s concerto.
