Thank You and a Pause
Dear Building a Classical Music Collection Readers,
When I began this column at the urging of family, friends and colleagues I did not know what to expect. I questioned how many readers would have an interest in my thoughts on classical music and classical recordings. As I soon discovered, I love the research and writing process itself so much I made a commitment to the column regardless of how many people followed me or how many subscribers I had.
As it turns out many of you have joined me along the way as regular readers, followers, subscribers, and paid subscribers. The support I have received from readers like you means more than I can express. I am not a professional writer, nor am I a professional musician or critic. But your encouragement, feedback, and regular readership have kept me going with this project, and so I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU!
The next installment in the Building a Collection series will be #40. In hindsight, it would have made more sense to begin at #250 and countdown to #1, but at this point we are counting upward and there is no stopping that train! My goal has been to produce a post at least every week, more often if possible. I have been consistent with that goal for the most part, though there is always room for improvement in both the quality and quantity of posts. Some of the posts simply take more time to do the subject justice, and I also realize that many of the posts are longer than other writers on Substack. I give each post the time and length I feel it deserves, so I hope you will indulge me a bit.
At #40 will be Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Long-time readers may remember I posted about The Planets in the earlier Top 50 Classical Recordings of All Time. My recent reading and listening have led me to a reassessment of the work, and in particular to the available recordings. Therefore, I need to do a bit more research and listening before being ready to post. This means there will not be a post for this coming week, so I ask for your patience as I work to get that prepared.
The second reason for a pause this week is so I can spend some time on how to build more value into the column for my paid subscribers. The column remains free, but I am incredibly grateful to those of you that have graciously supported my work by choosing to be a paid subscriber. I would like to give you something more in return. I am working on some ideas.
Once again, thank you for your support and patience, and see you next time!
